The Junior Squash club runs most Friday’s (holidays and local school events excepted) through the winter from 7-9pm. Currently, most of the participants are aged 13-14, but lately siblings have also joined so a healthy mixed group now attends regularly. The aim is to introduce youngsters to squash in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on having fun. Players are exposed to a balanced programme which offers coaching, informal matches against one another and the opportunity to play table tennis between games. All participants are encouraged to relax with friends over juice and a snack at the end of the evening. The junior squash section is thriving and the possibility of offering a second slot, if supervising volunteers become available, is under discussion.
Under the tutelage of our Squash Convener, Broomhill has entered a team in the West Squash Junior Tournament (Upstarts). It is a fortnightly event for beginners and improvers, held on Sunday mornings.
It is expected that most players will be of Primary School age. Each player will receive 3/4 matches and will be ranked by ability for competitive games. A West junior ranking will be given to every player entering tournaments.
